Pastor Valleskey

Pastor Valleskey comes from a pastor’s family. His father served as a pastor in Detroit, Michigan, for forty years. His two brothers are also pastors.

Pastor Valleskey began his ministry in Livingston, Montana. He moved from there to San Jose, California, where he was the founding pastor of Apostles Lutheran Church. He served there at a time that San Jose was growing rapidly. The church, situated in a brand new neighborhood, also experienced rapid growth.

After serving in San Jose for twenty years, Pastor Valleskey accepted a call to serve as a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, the graduate school that prepares young men for ministry in the congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), the church body of which Beautiful Saviour is a member. He served there, teaching New Testament and pastoral theology, for twenty years, the last eight of which he served as the president of the school.

In 2004, after 42 years of service, Pastor Valleskey retired from the full-time ministry. He and his wife, Janice, moved back to California, settling in San Diego’s North County. God has blessed them with a long and happy marriage. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011. They are blessed with three married daughters, three sons-in-law, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. One of our daughters, Becky Dyrssen, is a teacher in Beautiful Saviour’s School.

In the years since retiring from the full-time ministry, Pastor Valleskey has served for periods of time in several congregations around the country that were without a pastor. Since 2016, he has been serving here at Beautiful Saviour on a half-time basis.

Asked what his hobbies are, Pastor Valleskey replies, “I like to read and to travel. I enjoy eating out. But above all I love preaching and teaching the Gospel.” He and Janice have found Beautiful Saviour to be a very loving, warm, and friendly congregation.
